Ashford Athletic Club’s rising young field events star Matty Blandford has shown he has the potential to be an Olympic champion.
Matty is 12, has size 12 feet, and 6ft tall. He is putting this size to good use and is currently number 2 in the UK for discus, ranked fourth in the UK for javelin, and No5 in Uk for shot, making him overall the highest ranked thrower in the UK.
Over the weekend he competed at the Kent championships and secured three gold medals and the feat is made more the remarkable as he has no official coach for discus and shot.
Matt’s elder brother, Chris (16), took part in his first ever Octathlon over the weekend, and recorded seven personal bests, and eventually finished second, making the top 40 in the UK at the first attempt.
The family are hoping to attract a sponsor for Matt to help him realise his potential helping with his rising travel and clothing costs. Anyone willing to help can contact David Blandford on 07918 885801
