A car was destroyed after catching alight in the early hours of this morning.

The black Audi had been parked in a private bay outside a block of flats in Woodfall Drive, Crayford, when neighbours described hearing an explosion at around 2am.

Veronica Obadara looked out her kitchen window to see the vehicle well alight and called 999.

Firefighters arrived promptly and battled with the flames for almost 30 minutes.

The fire destroyed the front of the Audi completely, melting the two front tyres, the windshield, bonnet, the driver's seat and the front passenger seat.
