Floral tributes left after man's death in suspected hit-and-run crash in Bedonwell Road, Bexleyheath

Floral tributes have been placed where a man died in a suspected hit-and-run crash.

The 62-year-old, who had been driving a Citroen, suffered fatal injuries in the collision in Bedonwell Road, Bexleyheath.

Yellow and red roses have been tied around a lamppost, with a message reading: "Thinking of you and your family. You are in our thoughts."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Met Police says officers were called to the incident shortly before 7.30pm that evening.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services, the driver of a red Citreon C1 car – a 62-year-old man – was pronounced dead at the scene," they said. "The man's family has been informed.

"Another vehicle involved in the collision – a silver Mercedes – failed stop and drove away from the scene.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) based at Catford are investigating."

The force says the Mercedes was found abandoned a short time later.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing a death while uninsured and failing to stop at a collision. He was taken into custody.
