A killer nicknamed 'Ghost' has been jailed for at least 35 years after murdering a father for his £5,000 Rolex.

Danny Pearce, from Bromley, died in 2017 after being stabbed and shot at in Greenwich in a frenzied moped-mounted attack.

The 31-year-old had been walking home with his girlfriend and two friends after leaving a jazz club on Nevada Street when he was approached by two men on a moped who demanded his watch.

When Danny refused, he was chased and trapped by the pair who took it in turns to repeatedly stab him as he lay defenceless and pinned down in a stairwell. The attack was witnessed by his terrified friends and partner.

Jordan Bailey-Mascoll, 26, of The Brent, Dartford, had previously been found guilty of murdering Danny Pearce following a three-week trial at the Old Bailey.

But at the trial Bailey-Mascoll had refused to name his accomplice who was known only as 'Ghost'.

After evading justice for three years a second man, David Egan, 23, of Ashmead Road in Deptford, was arrested and charged with the fatal stabbing following a Met Police investigation.

He was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Monday after he was found guilty of murder, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a firearm and robbery.

Egan was also convicted of two further robberies in July 2017 as well as possession of an offensive weapon and having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Danny, who had a young daughter, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics and police to save him.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death at multiple stab wounds, but police also found gunshot grazing and evidence of at least four shots fired in Danny’s direction as he attempted to flee.

Detective Inspector Jo Sidaway said: “This was a truly horrific attack on an innocent man who had the rest of his life ahead of him. The level of violence shown towards him was shocking.

“Danny’s family will have to spend the rest of their lives without him and while I know today’s sentence won’t bring him back, I hope it does give them some closure.”

Danny’s watch has still not been found.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who has been offered a silver Rolex, worth around £5,000.
