Mass police chase in Sidcup after man drives wrong way on the A20

A driver has been arrested following a mass police chase involving police dogs, 30 officers and a helicopter.

At around 5pm this evening, police were in pursuit of a vehicle after it failed to stop at The Green in Orpington.

A man drove the wrong way up the A20 before crashing into a concrete bollard in Sidcup

The driver is understood to have driven the wrong way up the A20 to try before crashing into a concrete bollard, in Sevenoaks Way, Sidcup.

A major search was sparked after the man fled the vehicle after the collision and a helicopter from the National Police Air Service was called in to search for him.

Police detained the man after a 40 minute search of the area sealing off a near by school that was searched by dogs.

He was found hiding in a vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle said he was very shocked to discover the man hiding inside.

Five dogs, 30 officers and a force helicopter were used to find a man avoiding arrest in Sidcup

New Scotland Yard spokesman, Pete Davey, said: "A man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving. He has been taken into custody."
