A town centre shopping outlet was evacuated this afternoon after a blaze broke out in the car park.

Thick black smoke could be seen pouring from the roof of the multi-storey at the Broadway, off Albion Road, in Bexleyheath.

Two fire engines were called shortly before 1.40pm, where they found a portable cabin alight.

Shoppers were told to leave the area while the emergency was dealt with.

It had been extinguished by 2.30pm but crews remained at the scene to make sure it was safe.

A team is investigating the cause of the fire.
