A Star Wars fanatic has won a top award from an online selling shop for selling his collector's items.

Adam Ashford from Bromley walked away from the eBay Business Awards with a top prize.

Mr Ashford was inspired to start his shop on the auction site after his online fitness company closed in 2007.

With a baby on the way and his parents and older brother all suffering from ill health, he needed a new venture that would allow him to be at home to support his family.

He visited local charity shops to boost his inventory and eventually began adding childrens toys from other popular brands including Disney and Lego.

His shop, Star Wars Figures, which began with a £50 investment, has generated over £150,000 in sales.

He said: “When I joined eBay, I was looking for a role that would allow me to work at home while taking care of my family, but I could never have expected my business to grow as it has.

"For me, eBay has become more than a marketplace – it is a key to freedom. I’m very grateful for this award and I’m looking forward to whatever it brings next.”

Mr Ashford scooped the Green Shoots Seller Award following an audience vote.

Rob Hattrell, vice president of eBay UK, said: “Small businesses like Adam’s are at the heart of what we do, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the very best and brightest of those selling on our platform.

"Their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and it’s a privilege to hear each of their unique stories first-hand.
