Two men have been arrested over an explosion which damaged a ULEZ camera.

Police were called to the incident on Willersley Avenue in Sidcup on December 6.

The camera had been installed only 90 minutes before the blast. It was caused by a low-sophistication improvised device which damaged both the camera and surrounding property.

Counter terrorism police attended at around 6.45pm and an investigation was launched.

Earlier today police arrested a 60-year-old man in Sidcup and a 61-year-old man in Horsham on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or property

Both men remain in custody at a south London police station and searches are ongoing at two addresses in Sidcup and Horsham.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident.

They are particularly keen to speak to people who drove or cycled in Willersley Avenue with a dashcam between 4.30pm and 7.30pm on December 6 who can share any footage they may have.

Detective chief superintendent Trevor Lawry said: “The explosion could easily have had far more harmful consequences, and today’s arrests highlight just how seriously the Met is treating the incident.

“My local officers are continuing to work with and support the Counter Terrorism Command who are leading the investigation due to their specialism in dealing with incidents involving the use of explosives.”
