Police called to Plaistow Lane in Bromley after reports of man ‘breaking windows’

Armed police swooped on a street this afternoon after a man was allegedly seen “smashing windows”.

Officers were called to Plaistow Lane in Bromley at around 3.30pm to reports of a man in possession of a weapon.

A heavy police presence was spotted on the main road with pictures obtained by KentOnline showing at least five police vehicles at the scene.

Firearms officers were also in attendance.

Officers shut off a section of Garden Road and were seen making enquiries in the car park of a supported housing block.

The Metropolitan Police service says a man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

However, the force added there was no evidence he was in possession of a weapon as initially reported.

The man was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to his hands.
