A crime scene is in place after a body was found in a field.

The discovery was made yesterday afternoon near Biggin Hill near Bromley.

Members of the public found the body while walking in a field near Saltbox Hill, at about 4.20pm.

Biggin Hill residents reported seeing police and forensic units descend on the scene last night, setting up lights to illuminate the area as night fell.

Police remain at the scene today.

Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

Their age and gender have not yet been confirmed.

The Metropolitan Police say the death is being treated as unexplained and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

There have been no arrests and inquiries are ongoing.
