A person has died on a railway line into London, police have confirmed.
At around 5am today (November 28), Southeastern closed the route in both directions between Victoria Station and Bickley as emergency services dealt with an “incident”.
It followed a call that someone had been seen on the tracks near Shortlands station in Bromley.
British Transport Police attended. A spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line near Shortlands railway station at around 4.50am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
Journeys were rerouted through Chislehurst and pictures of huge crowds gathering at Bromley South station were shared online.
At around 7.20am Southeastern said the route was reopened but delays and cancellations were still likely.
At 9.26am the company tweeted to say the incident had been cleared and their services had returned to normal.
