A group possessing air rifles has been detained by The Met's specialist firearms command for allegedly shooting at wildlife in a popular park and woodland.

Four males were detained by the Met's specialist firearms command unit, and the National Police Air Service after reportedly shooting at wildlife in Foots Cray Meadows, Sidcup.

Met Police confirmed that police were called at 3.38pm today, Sunday, October 16, to reports of a group of people in possession of air rifles.

A spokesman said: "Due to the nature of the incident, firearms officers attended with support from the police helicopter (NPAS) and local officers.

"Four males (no further details) were arrested and taken into custody. Two firearms were recovered and secured.

"There were no reports of any injuries and inquiries are ongoing."

Sidcup and St Mary's & St James' Police were also in attendance.

Sidcup Police tweeted today, October 16: "Four males detained by @MPSFirearms and @NPASSouthEast in possession of air rifles allegedly shooting at wildlife in Footscray meadows @MPSSidcup @MPSStMarysRY"
