A man has been charged in connection with a ULEZ camera explosion.
It follows a police investigation launched last year after footage of a “massive blast” was captured on CCTV outside a home.
The explosion took place at around 6.45pm in Willersley Avenue, Sidcup, on December 6 to a newly installed camera.
Kevin Rees, of Harcourt Avenue in Sidcup, was charged via postal charge requisition with causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.
The 62-year-old faces three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ court on Monday, November 11.
Another man, Stephen Harwood-Stamper, was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or property, and criminal damage.
He was subsequently released from the investigation but was investigated for a separate incident of alleged criminal damage to the ULEZ camera, which took place earlier on the same day.
Harwood-Stamper, 62, has now been charged via postal charge requisition in relation the damage caused earlier in the day.
He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on November 27.
The investigation was carried out by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, who leads local policing in the Bexley area, said: “We know that this incident caused much concern locally at the time.
“Local officers have continued to support the investigation team as they have diligently gone about gathering evidence in this case, working closely with the CPS, which has led to these charges being brought.
“The criminal justice process must now run its course and I would therefore ask people not to speculate further as we await the conclusion of this case at court.”
