A road remains closed and a woman is still in critical condition after a stabbing yesterday evening.
Police were at the scene within three minutes after reports of a serious assault where the victim, who is in her 30s, was seriously injured.
It happened in Penhill Road, Bexley, at 4.07pm and a cordon was put in place. It remains up this morning and emergency services are still at the scene.
The woman remains in a serious condition at a hospital and her family has been informed.
Traffic diversions are in place as Penhill Road remains closed in both directions.
Insp Graham Rickard, from the local policing team in Bexley, said: “We arrived at the scene within three minutes of the initial report and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived.
"Sadly she is very seriously injured and has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
‘Sadly she is very seriously injured...’
“At this very early stage, we believe the suspect is known to her. Officers remain at the scene and in the area carrying out several inquiries.”
Police confirmed that inquiries are ongoing and there have been no arrests so far.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday at 4:40pm to reports of an incident on Penhill Road, Bexley.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and a medic in a fast-response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a woman at the scene, before taking her to a major trauma centre.”
