A rail line has been reopened after a lorry collided with a bridge in Bromley.

Network Rail had to shut the Bromley North line yesterday after a "dramatic bridge strike" on New Street Hill.

But remarkable clean up operation saw the road and rail line reopened for commuters this morning.

Following the incident Network Rail's Kent & Sussex team explained that a girder and parapet had been knocked clear off the bridge, making it unsafe to run trains over it or for cars to pass underneath.

The team posted pictures of rubble strewn over the road in the aftermath of the collision and added: "The bridge is the only way by car in or out of this area of Sundridge Park and we are working with our bridge inspectors and @metpoliceuk to work out how we can arrange safe access for people who live on the other side.

"The line is blocked to trains and the road to cars until it can be properly inspected and the debris cleared. As soon as we know more, we'll let you know, and until then please accept our apologies for the disruption."
