Dramatic pictures have emerged following a huge fire at a block of flats.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled the blaze at Sun Court, Erith just before 9:30am today.
Half of a two-roomed flat on the second floor of the residential block was alight.
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade wore breathing apparatus while rescuing two people from the building, assisting further residents to safety.
Five people were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
Nearby resident Casey told of the moment she saw the thick black smoke billowing from the flats.
“I looked outside and saw the block of flats on fire. The smoke was so thick and black – it looked awful,” she said.
“I messaged a friend who lives there to see if she was okay and she FaceTimed me. She was outside with my nephew so I ran out to grab him and bring him inside. He had no shoes and socks on everyone had rushed out in pyjamas.
“Once I had fed him and put some clothes on him at my house we went back over and everyone was downstairs just watching.
“A couple of the young boys had a bag of food they were handing out, myself and my partner were giving out socks and jumpers for some of the kids.”
She added that once the blaze was put out, the area was taped off.
“They opened up a nearby hall for the residents to stay while they wait for hotels or temporary accommodation. I was able to collect some nappies and wipes and clothes from neighbours around to give to them,” she said.
The fire was under control by 11:30am but crews remain on scene damping down remaining hotspots.
Firefighters from Bexley, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Lee Green, Erith and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
