Dina Asher-Smith admitted it has been a “tough week” after finishing well outside the medals in the 200m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Orpington’s Asher-Smith finished seventh in the 200m final on Friday night, fading in the second half of the race to time 22.34sec.

Great Britain team-mate Daryll Neita was fifth with a personal best of 22.16.

Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson took the gold medal in an impressive time of 21.34, just seven hundredths away from the world record mark.

“I executed it pretty well,” said 27-year-old Asher-Smith. “Obviously, I would have wished this World Championships was different for me.

“I feel in great shape, I’m happy to be out here and to have competed. I don’t want to be running times behind where I want to be but it’s done.

“It’s been a tough week, that’s sport. Ive been feeling great all year, especially in the 100m, I was looking for a 10.7 in the semi-final and I was on my way to that and then it went upside down.

“I’m looking forward to Paris next year. I’m really motivated as I know that when I’m at my best I (can be) among the medals. I’ve done the best with the cards that I’ve been dealt this week.”

Asher-Smith finished eighth in the 100m final on Monday.
