An Isthmian South East side have moved swiftly to appoint a new boss.

Darren Anslow takes charge of early-season strugglers Phoenix Sports, a day after Keith McMahon stood down as manager following boardroom changes at the club.

Former Deal, Chatham, Whitstable, Beckenham and Lordswood man Anslow arrives alongside new first-team coaches Sam Clarke-Keen, Nick Taylor and former Charlton midfielder Bradley Pritchard, who also joins the playing squad.

In Phoenix Sports’ club statement on Thursday, UEFA A Licence coach Anslow said: “I’m really excited to be here.

“I know the club has a rich history and, although this is a new chapter for Phoenix, it’s one I truly believe in.

“The incoming board has a solid, ambitious plan, and I’m proud to be part of it.

“My first priority is to do everything I can to keep the club in the division but, in the long term, I can see there’s a real appetite to build something special here, which I’m really looking forward to being part of.”

Phoenix Sports chairman Andy Mortlock added: “We're delighted to have secured a manager of Darren Anslow’s pedigree, who has a proven track record of improving players and building successful teams.

“He's an excellent fit for Phoenix, given his ability to get the absolute best out of his teams.

“He's an outstanding coach and a great developer of talent.”

Anslow met the Phoenix Sports squad at training last night and, after a fixture-free Saturday, will travel to Littlehampton next weekend.

The Bexleyheath club have taken just one point from eight league fixtures this season.
