Hard work clearly paid off for Metrogas as their defensive organisation laid the foundations for an impressive win over Bromley at Holm Park.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more well-drilled team than Metrogas as every player knew their jobs.

They maintained their record of not conceding a goal in this season’s competition in the final.

“It was a tough battle as we expected but the boys worked so hard and the better team got the win,” said Metrogas manager Ryan Canty.

“They deserve it, they got what they wanted. They are a special group of boys and to see their faces like that is a fitting moment.

“They work very hard to be committed to win the ball, keep their shape and structure and communicate. There are moments in games and they came with the good delivery and finishing we’ve got.

“Harley’s got fantastic delivery, we worked on it on Thursday and we said to make the corners dangerous and he did that for the first goal.

“We didn’t manage to win a cup last year. Winning a league is amazing but the feeling you get from winning a cup stays with you forever.”

Metrogas thoroughly deserved their victory, which never looked in doubt from the moment Harley Canty’s corner went straight in after 12 minutes to put them ahead.

That came just seconds after Charlie England nearly headed in another expert corner delivery.

Louis Spicer’s excellent footwork set up Liam Williams whose shot was deflected over as Metrogas pushed for a second.

Charlie Young’s snapshot went inches just before the break but he found his range just three minutes into the second half, firing in to make it 2-0.

Harvey Oluwaji’s free-kick went over but Bromley’s frustration crept in the longer the contest went on as they were unable to fashion a clear sight of goal.

Player-of-the-match Johnny Gwynne made countless blocks and tackles while Oscar Edwards and skipper Oliver Lovett alongside him were outstanding. If anyone came out of position, England dropped in to fill the void while Reggie McKone was everywhere ahead of them in midfield.

The frustration boiled over in stoppage time when Bromley’s Reece Ferlance was given a straight red card for his reaction, the resulting melee involving virtually every outfield player. The referee also gave a second yellow card to Metrogas’ Edwards, who had earlier been cautioned for timewasting as both sides finished with 10 players.
