Striker David Smith has signed for a National League club as his departure from Folkestone is confirmed.

Smith attracted plenty of higher-league interest this summer after scoring 35 league and cup goals for Isthmian Premier Invicta last season and, despite being offered new terms at Cheriton Road, it’s reigning FA Trophy champions Bromley who have signed the former Ashford and Dover man.

“Sad to say my time at Folkestone has come to an end, it’s been an absolute pleasure to play in front [of] the supporters,” Smith wrote on Twitter on Friday.

“I’d like to thank the gaffer [Neil Cugley] for putting his trust into me and all the staff at the club for making me feel so welcome during my stay.

“Big shout out to my team-mates who looked after me during my one-and-a-half seasons [stay].

“I’m going to miss every single one [of] you guys.”

Folkestone, who play League 2 Gillingham this Saturday in their first pre-season friendly, have this week signed former Tonbridge and Maidstone frontman Ibrahim Olutade, though.

Prolific Invicta striker Ade Yusuff also has penned a two-year contract with the club.

Bromley, managed by Andy Woodman, beat big-spending Wrexham in the FA Trophy final in May and they finished 10th in the National League.

On signing for the Ravens, Smith Tweeted: "Delighted to be at such a big club like @bromleyfc - can’t wait to give my all for this team and the supporters.

"[I am] looking forward to meeting you all and scoring some goals at Hayes Lane.

"Special shout out to @Specialist4S for getting this over the line."

Due to 23-year-old Smith's age, Bromley are understood to have had to have paid a fee to Folkestone to sign Smith.
