Former Maidstone goalkeeper Lee Worgan has joined Welling - less than six months before his 40th birthday.

Worgan, who’s also played for Tonbridge and Dover, has followed his old Eastbourne Borough boss Danny Bloor to Park View Road to become the Wings’ new No.1.

He’ll also be goalkeeping coach at the National South club.

Worgan turns 40 on December 1 but the former Wales under-21 international remains a class act, continuing to excel under Bloor at Eastbourne over the past couple of seasons.

Bloor took over at Welling last week and Worgan told the club website: “After Danny had accepted the job, it was inevitable that I would be one of his first signings and I am looking forward to the challenge.

“My experience will help the club because it’s going through a transitional period, so that experience will be important.

“The plan is for me to help the management team as well, so my knowledge of this level, I feel, will be a valuable asset to Danny, the team and everyone at Welling United.

“As I’ve always said, as long as I’m playing to a performance that I’m happy with, the manager’s happy and the supporters are happy with, I will continue to play.

“I’m hungry, I always want to do well and as long as that keeps happening, I’ll keep getting my gloves on and getting out there.”

Bloor said: “Lee was at my previous club for the last couple of seasons and, in my opinion, is one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the National League South.”
