Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the Australian Open in the second round.
The 20-year-old, from Orpington, was beaten in straight sets by world No.7 and French Open finalist Coco Gauff.
Raducanu, ranked No.77, put up a great fight against one of the tournament favourites before going down 6-3, 7-6 to the American teenager in the Rod Laver Arena.
The 2021 US Open champion’s participation had been in doubt after suffering an ankle injury during a warm-up tournament in New Zealand.
She recovered in time, beating Tamara Korpatsch 6-3, 6-2 in the first round to set up a meeting with Gauff.
Her ankle was certainly tested in an intense match featuring numerous lengthy rallies.
Raducanu missed two set points at 5-4 in the second set, having rallied from 4-2 down, and Gauff went on to take the tiebreak 7-4, converting her third match point.
