Cray Valley took Charlton to an FA Cup First-Round replay on an extraordinary day for the non-league club at the Valley.
The Isthmian South East Millers, who sit 117 places below their League 1 neighbours in the football pyramid, fell behind to an early Scott Fraser goal.
But 2,000 away fans went wild when Kyrell Lisbie’s cross forced an own goal from Lucas Ness shortly after half-time, and the Addicks were booed off.
The Millers more than held their own against the much-changed Addicks and thoroughly deserve a second crack, helped some heroic defending.
The winners of the replay will travel to Gillingham in round two.
The roar when Cray won an early corner was a special moment in itself for a club used to playing in front of modest crowds of 100-150.
That’s one of their aims, to attract some of their FA Cup followers to the Artic Stadium for the bread and butter of Isthmian South East football.
And they’ve given themselves every chance with their committed display at the Valley.
They could easily have folded after falling behind in just the ninth minute.
But that didn’t happen, with Steve McKimm’s side clearing their heads and staying in the game impressively before landing the equaliser.
Charlton’s second string were kept honest by the visitors, who played some nice patterns in the final third and looked dangerous on the break on more than one occasion in the first half.
Millers keeper Sam Freeman had beaten away an early shot from Chem Campbell before the Addicks broke the deadlock.
Karoy Anderson was the provider with a lovely through ball and the finish from captain Fraser was equally good.
Kyrell Lisbie, son of former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie, had an effort blocked in the box by James Abankwah.
Soon after, Sonny Black pounced after Lucas Ness lost possession and linked with Freddie Parker and Lisbie before forcing a decent block by Anderson.
At the other end, Freeman pulled off an excellent save from Slobodan Tedic’s fierce strike before half-time.
If the roar for the early corner had seemed loud, it paled into insignificance as Cray Valley levelled in front of the travelling fans three minutes into the second half.
Lisbie was the provider after good work on the left, with his cross turned into his own net by Addicks defender Ness under pressure from Freddie Parker.
Charlie Kirk had two big chances to restore Charlton’s lead, blazing over at the far post before firing straight at Walker when sent through one-on-one.
Star man Alfie May was introduced as part of a triple change for the Addicks, as they looked to get the job done.
But Cray Valley were having a right good go, with one of their own substitutes, Denzel Gayle, a threat down the right.
The Addicks went on to introduce another of their main men in Miles Leaburn - son of Charlton legend Carl - as their desperation grew greater.
But still the Millers kept coming with Julien Anau firing over after the ball sat up nicely on the edge of the box.
Leaburn had a low strike parried by Freeman in the closing stages followed by another effort during 10 minutes of added time.
