Boss Danny Bloor has played down his Eastbourne Borough return this Saturday.

Bloor took charge of Welling this June - having been dismissed at Eastbourne earlier that month, just three days after new Eastbourne owner Simon Leslie was confirmed.

He heads back to Priory Lane for the first time since his exit after a three-and-a-half-year tenure with his new Wings team, as they aim to kick-start their National League South campaign.

Speaking after their weekend FA Cup 3-2 derby win at Dartford, inspired by hat-trick hero Antony Papadopoulos, Bloor said: “It’s just another three points going back to my previous club, isn’t it? You won’t get double!

“But it’s a game I’m looking forward to. It’ll save me having to drive too far, which is always quite handy, but it’s just a game for another three points.

“They have expectations of getting promotion and winning the league.

“We’ll go there as underdogs but, as you saw on Saturday, the underdog sometimes wins.”

Welling sit third-bottom with seven points from nine league matches while Eastbourne - knocked out of the FA Cup 1-0 at home to Worthing at the weekend - are three points better off under new manager Mark Beard. But they’re already five points adrift of the play-offs.

The Wings earned plaudits for a free-flowing style of play at Dartford as they responded after successive defeats to Worthing and Bath.

“That’s the way we’re going to play,” admitted Bloor.

“We don’t have a long throw, we don’t smash the ball, that’s the way my sides have played at previous clubs.

“I’m so lucky to have a magnificent coaching team. I have an assistant manager in Ben Austin who couldn’t be any better.

“Nick Arnold, Teddy Bloor and Lee Worgan, they do a magnificent job.”
