Choosing to welcome a dog into your life is a monumental decision, but for many one of the most-rewarding things you could ever do.
Here, the Dogs Trust profiles 28 lovable pooches in Kent desperate for someone to take a chance on them, and give them a forever home they can call their own….
Name: Astrid
Breed: Dobermann
Age: Two
Astrid is a two-year-year old Dobermann who hasn't had the best start in life as she had her ears cropped, which is illegal in the UK.
She finds meeting strangers quite worrying, so she does like to take things slowly and build a bond before trusting people.
Once she gets to know you she is a playful and bouncy girl who loves to have a cuddle.
She is a clever girl and really enjoys training, and knows lots of commands already.
Astrid doesn't enjoy spending time with other dogs and is looking for a quiet, calm, home with minimal visitors.
She needs a home with no other pets or children.
Name: Anton
Breed: Lurcher
Age: Four
Four-year old lurcher Anton is a big, fun bundle of love who adores a fuss and groom and will pretty much do anything for a tasty treat.
He loves playing with toys - the squeakier the better - and is a super-smart boy who is so keen to be involved in what you are doing and is very eager to please.
He loves walks in nice places and explores confidently.
Anton needs all his basic training and house training and so will need his own private and secure garden.
He would like a home with no other pets so he can relax, and any children in the home will need to be confident with big bouncy dogs and be 14 years old or over.
Name: Ashe
Breed: Belgian shepherd dog
Age: 18 months
Ashe is looking for a home to show him what it means to be a loved family pet as it is likely he hasn’t had the best start in life.
He is a very sweet boy who takes his time to trust, but once a bond is built he is very loyal and loving.
He loves to explore new places with lots of sniffs and enjoys the company of his known and trusted handlers.
Although not essential, it is thought Ashe would be best suited to living alongside another calm, friendly and well-established dog to help him build his confidence as he is much more settled and less nervous with another dog to follow.
He will need a relaxed environment, with a predictable routine, so any children in the home will need to be 16 years old and over.
Name: Bex
Breed: American bulldog
Age: Three
Bex is a friendly and playful three-year-old American bulldog who adores a fuss.
She says a very happy hello to everyone she meets and loves exploring new places with lots of sniffs!
She adores toys, whether they are soft ones, balls or ropes, and takes tasty treats from you super gently and will sit and give her paw for a reward.
She has the potential to learn lots more with positive, reward-based training.
Bex knows lots of her basic training and was housetrained in her previous home but she may need a refresher.
She has recently had surgery to remove her tail so for now she is looking for a home with no other pets so that she can recover in a quiet, calm environment.
She can live with secondary-school age children.

Breed: Border collie
Age: Two
Blue is looking for an active home and owners with time to play fun games with him.
He could live with sensible children aged 12 years and over who are confident with dogs that don’t always keep all four paws on the floor.
He could live as an only dog in his home or share with another playful dog and would benefit from having doggy friends to walk and play with.
Blue would like to have company for most of his day, especially when he first goes home, but he could be gradually introduced to being left once settled.
Blue loves to explore new places and will make a really fun adventure buddy and he will benefit from a family that can give him lots of mental and physical stimulation to fulfil his breed traits to keep him busy and happy.

Breed: Bulldog cross
Age: 16 months
Creed is a playful, goofy, friendly 16-month-old American Bulldog with an inquisitive, sensitive and loving nature.
He loves to pick up toys and zoom around with glee and then settles down to have a lovely cuddle.
Creed is looking for a calm and predictable home where he can settle into a relaxed environment and enjoy the life of a cherished and adored family pet.
He has lots of his basic training but may need a bit of work on his house training when he goes home as he hasn’t had the chance to learn that yet.
He can be left for short periods of time once he has settled in, but would like to have company for the majority of his day.
He could share his home with children aged 16 and over who are confident with bouncy, excitable dogs and who will recognise when he needs space.
He is currently fearful of cars and travelling in the car, so he will need a home in a quiet area away from busy roads.
Name: Darla
Breed: Dobermann
Age: Two
Darla is a bouncy young girl and would be best suited to a home with children aged 16 years and over who are confident with spirited dogs.
She will need owners that enjoy going for nice, long walks, preferably in low dog-populated areas as she can become frustrated, vocal and over excited with lots of other dogs.
For this reason, she would also need to be the only pet in her home.
Her new owners will be advised on how to manage her behaviour around other dogs prior to going home.
She may need a house-training refresher in her new home and, although she can settle on her own for a short period of time, she does prefer to have company the majority of the time.
She would be a fantastic addition to an active and upbeat home.
Name: Dom
Breed: Lurcher cross
Age: Four
Dom is looking for a calm, quiet and active home where he can enjoy a predictable routine in a consistent environment.
He can live with confident children aged 16 years and over.
Due to his breed he does have a natural instinct to chase, so he is muzzle-trained and wears it happily on his walks.
For this reason he would be best-suited to being the only pet in his home, and any walking friends would need to be medium to large size.
He will need his own secure garden with high fences as he can jump quite high, so 6ft minimum will be ideal!
He adores human company, so when he first goes home he would prefer not to be left alone at all and to have his leaving time introduced slowly and positively once he has properly settled in.
Dom is a sweet boy who will make a really lovely best buddy for a lucky home.
Name: Drax
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Age: One
Drax is searching for a home that will give him all the space and time he needs to settle into his new life.
Due to his slightly nervous nature, he would prefer to live in an adult-only home with minimal visitors so that he can settle and relax and he would need slow and positive introductions to new people.
Drax is a little bit worried by lots of close handling, especially if he doesn’t know you, so he will like to have a more hands off approach, especially when he first goes home.
He could live with another relaxed dog in his home pending successful meets and would also benefit from having friendly and calm walking buddies.
Drax cannot live with cats or small animals.
He is a sweet little boy and once he gets to know and trust you he will be an awesome little buddy for your home.

Breed: Miniature smooth-haired dachshund
Age: 18 months
Ethel is a very sweet and sensitive dachshund who hasn’t had the best start in life and really deserves to find a home that can love and care for her.
She is a gentle little soul who will flourish when given the chance to experience life as an adored family pet.
She is a keen sunbather and will find a nice warm spot to bask in and enjoy a lazy snooze.
Ethel will need a relaxed, quite home with adult adopters and a lifestyle that is predictable.
She would like to be the only dog in her home and cannot live with small animals or cats.
She loves a little tickle under the chin, and once a bond is built she becomes very cuddly and affectionate.
With the right owners, lots of time, patience and love she will make an adorable companion for a very lucky home.

Breed: American bulldog
Age: One
Freckles is a big, squishy, bouncy American Bulldog who is bursting with love.
He can live with children over 14 years old who are confident with big bouncy dogs and could live with another playful dog, or be the only dog in his home.
He loves to play with toys, enjoys fun puzzle games and is super good with his training.
Freckles was house-trained in his previous home but may need a refresher when he first goes home. As he is quite strong on his lead, new owners will need to able to handle him when he is out and about.
He is a big strong pup with the most gentle nature and will make a wonderful, sweet, fun addition to your home.

Breed: Tibetan mastiff
Age: Two
Freya is a stunning two-year-old Tibetan mastiff who could be mistaken for a lion when the winter months set in.
She enjoys playing with toys and settles nicely with a long lasting chew in her bed.
Freya is a wonderful girl that needs a home where she can settle and gain confidence.
She may need a house-training refresher when she goes home but she travels really well in the car and is muzzle-trained to help her in situations that worry her.
She is looking for a quiet, calm, adult-only home where she can enjoy a predictable routine.
She will make a wonderful, giant and cuddly companion.
Name: Jozzie
Breed: Chow chow cross
Age: Two
Jozzie is calm, gentle and very cuddly chow chow cross with the most beautiful fluffy coat.
She loves going on nice walks where she can sniff everything and explore her surroundings.
Being a lovely, calm girl Jozzie could live with children aged 14 and over who will give her space when she needs it.
She would prefer to be the only dog in her home and she would not be able to live with cats or small furries.
On walks, Jozzie is happy to be in the vicinity of other dogs but prefers not to have too much interaction.
She already has her basic training under her belt and is eager to learn lots more new things with her new family.
Since being in our care, Jozzie has been treated for bladder stones, which is now being managed with a special food which adopters will need to continue with once she goes home.
Name: Kane
Breed: German shepherd
Age: Six
Kane is a sweet and gentle German shepherd who is a real softie at heart. He is looking for a home with his best buddy Meg (scroll down for profile).
They would like to live in an adult-only home with no other pets.
Kane is looking for a quiet home in a peaceful area where he can feel relaxed and safe in his environment with minimal visitors.
He is not very interested in toys but once settled may start to play, but is much more interested in being by your side for gentle attention and affection.
Kane is quite a worried boy when going to new places and meeting new people for the first time, so he will need an owner who will advocate for him in situations that he may find uncomfortable.
He has no current training so will need owners who will start from scratch with all his basics, including house-training.
He has grown so much in confidence since he arrived with us and is showing us what an amazing, gentle, loving and loyal boy he can be.

Breed: Rottweiler
Age: Seven
Lenny is a sweet and loving gentle giant who has come to us through no fault of his own to look for a new home.
He loves his home comforts and will happily snooze by your side on the sofa. He sometimes sneaks off for a proper sleep on the bed too!
Lenny has had surgery on his back legs in the past which has left him with some discomfort that is managed with daily medication.
He would like to be the only dog in his home as he could get hurt if another dog tried to play too boisterously with him in his home.
He cannot live with cats, but can live with sensible children of 16 years old and over who can give him space when he needs it, and who will be careful when fussing and handling him
Lenny is an absolute sweetheart who will make a wonderful, calm, loyal companion to share your home with.

Breed: Rottweiler labrador cross
Age: Seven
Loki is a rottweiler labrador cross and a big bundle of lovable fun.
He is looking for a quiet home with experienced adopters who have the patience, time and dedication to continue his ongoing training
He can be nervous around traffic, so a home in a peaceful area away from busy roads would be ideal for him.
Loki would be able to live with children over 16 years old who are confident with big breeds.
He is instantly friendly with new people but can become boisterous in exciting situations or when he is playing, so owners will need to be confident handling large dogs that can jump up and mouth during play.
Loki is a big lovable hunk of a dog who really deserves loving adopters who can give him a happy, fulfilled life. In return you will have a cuddly, loyal and constant companion by your side.
Name: Marmite
Breed: Smooth-haired dachshund
Age: 9 months
Marmite is a sweet and sensitive dachshund with a huge personality in a teeny body.
He is looking for a quiet and predictable home with patient adopters that can give him the space that he needs to settle in his own time.
Marmite would be best suited to a home where there are minimal visitors, especially to begin with, and could live with children over 16 years old who can be aware when he needs his space.
He would like to be the only dog in his home as he doesn't like to share his things, and he can be a bit worried by larger breeds.
As he is still a young boy, he doesn’t like to be on his own very much so would like adopters that are home all the time to keep him company.
Marmite plays really nicely with all his toys, and once playtime is over will curl up for a peaceful snooze.
He is a beautiful boy who just needs the time and patience to enable him to flourish and he will bring so much fun and laughter into his new home.
Name: Maxwell
Breed: English bulldog
Age: Four
Maxwell is a cuddly English bulldog who is looking for his new home.
He is a very good boy in nature and just loves being with his people.
He is quite a big lad and as a result he can be strong on his lead, so owners will need to be able to manage this when out and about.
He could do with losing some weight, so his new family will need to manage his food intake and bear this in mind when giving him his favourite treats too.
Maxwell would need to be the only animal in the home, and any children would need to be 16 years old and over.
He takes daily medication to help with his skin and he needs regular medicated bathing, so adopters should be prepared to continue his care once he goes home.
If you have space in your home for this cuddly boy, Maxwell will love you with his whole heart!

Breed: German shepherd
Age: Two
Meg is a beautiful, sensitive German shepherd who hasn’t had the best start in life and really deserves a forever home to call her own.
She is looking for a loving adult-only home with her best buddy Kane (scroll up for profile).
After initially being quite worried, she is now showing us what a loving and sweet girl she is once you get to know her.
When she first came to us she didn’t show any interest in playing, but over time as her confidence.
Although she gets on fabulously with Kane, Meg can be a bit over the top when meeting other dogs, so she would not be able to live with any other dogs and walking buddies would need to be confident and tolerant of her. e has grown she has started to come out of her shell.
The home that gives Meg the chance to be a loved family pet will get to see her lovely, loyal and devoted personality flourish.

Breed: Italian corso cross
Age: Two
Mike is an an Italian corso cross with a heart as huge as his gigantic paws.
He adores great big teddy bear toys, gives them a sniff, runs around with them and then throws them up in the air so he can catch them!
Mike loves going for fun adventures outside, so a family that enjoys walking and being active would suit him best.
Due to his size, any children in the home would need to be 14 years old and over and confident around larger dogs.
He has a lot of his basic training already under his belt, walks beautifully on his lead and tries his best to be clean in his kenne
Mike is still a young boy for a large breed dog, so he still has a bit of puppy bounce to him, but will make a gorgeous, relaxed and loving addition to an extremely lucky home.

Breed: Smooth-haired dachshund
Age: Two
Two-year-old dachshund Nina is a sensitive little girl who hasn’t had the best start in life and really deserves to find a home that will give her the life she deserves.
Nina adores teddies and will carry them to her bed, and she finds a lot of comfort in people she knows and trusts. and will fall asleep on your lap.
She is a real sweetheart that needs someone to give her the chance to experience a loving home.
She would like a quiet home life with one or two adults in her home, preferably female, with minimal visitors.
She would prefer to be the only dog in her home but could have walking friends if they are introduced to her in a gentle, calm way as she is sometimes worried by bigger dogs.
Nina really loves human company so she would need access to her whole home so she doesn’t feel left out.
Name: Noah
Breed: Belgian shepherd dog
Age: Three
Noah is a confident, bouncy and playful three-year-old who loves to learn and be on the go.
He is instantly friendly with everyone he meets and a big lover of fusses and cuddles.
Noah is quite boisterous when he plays with other dogs, so has a variety of walking friends at the centre to practise his socialisation.
He would benefit from owners who will continue to introduce him to other dogs in a controlled way once he goes home so that he can build his confidence.
Noah could live with confident children aged 14 year and over, and would like to be the only dog in his home so he can enjoy his space
He will make a truly incredible, loyal and loving companion.
Name: Paige
Breed: German shepherd dog cross
Age: Five
Paige is a beautiful and intelligent German shepherd cross.
She enjoys her walks in quiet locations so would love adopters who will be keen to take her for long walks where she can use her nose.
Paige is an amazing girl who has so much love to give to her lucky adopters - she just needs someone with patience to help her get settled into a routine.
She would benefit from experienced dog owners who are willing to engage in lots of positive training and work closely with our behaviour team to help build her confidence.
Paige must be the only pet in a house with no children.
Name: Percy
Breed: Patterdale terrier cross
Age: Three
Percy is looking for a patient, adult only-home in a quiet, preferably rural, location as he needs a calm, predictable environment.
Percy struggles to be around other dogs, so in addition to being the only dog in his home, he would prefer to have walks in low dog-populated areas and will ideally need a home without dogs in neighbouring gardens.
He would not be able to live with cats and will need his own secure garden to potter and play in.
He is muzzle trained and wears his muzzle without a fuss on his walks and he travels really well in the car.
Percy is an incredibly intelligent young boy who knows so many things already, like sit, down, paw and stay.
While he does need adopters who can keep up with his energy, he will make a lovely, fun and entertaining dog to make the most wonderful memories with.

Breed: Crossbreed
Age: Seven
Seven-year-old Roxy is a big girl in body and heart, with the most gentle and calm nature.
She is an easy-going girl who just loves her people and is happiest when snoozing at your feet.
Roxy has no idea how big she is and comes in for lovely cuddles and will likely want to be on your lap when she goes home.
She loves going to the beach and playing in the sea and will have a little run around with you before she is ready for a snack and a snuggle.
Roxy can live with children aged 14 and over as she would benefit from a calm and relaxed environment. Although she would prefer to be the only dog in her home, she can have some walking friends as she is largely indifferent to other dogs
Roxy will make such a calm, reliable and affectionate companion for a very lucky family.

Breed: Labrador whippet cross
Age: Six months
Waldo is a six-month month old labrador whippet cross who hasn’t had the best start in life and is looking for his first home.
He takes his time to trust new people, but onve a bond is built he is a cuddly boy who loves to be by your side!
Waldo is looking for a calm home with a predictable routine and owners who have the time and patience to help him settle and come out of his shell.
Although not essential, we think that Waldo would be best suited to living alongside another playful, friendly and well-established dog to help him build his confidence
He will need all his basic training, including house training, as he has never lived in a home
Although he is a nervous little guy, with the right adopters, support and gentle guidance, Waldo will be a complete joy to have in your home.

Breed: Lurcher
Age: Three
Walker is a super-friendly, bouncy and playful three-year-old Lurcher with so much love to give his new family.
He loves to explore everywhere he goes and greets everyone he meets with a happy hello and lots of big wags of his tail.
Walker could live with children aged 14 and over who are confident with bigger dogs as he can be quite bouncy during play and needs to work on his manners when taking treats.
He would prefer to be the only dog in his home and will need his own secure garden to potter, play and stretch his legs in.
This boy will make a wonderful companion for a family who have the time and patience to give him lots of love.
Name: Wilson
Breed: Labrador cross
Age: Three
Three-year-old Wilson has a huge heart and huge personality!
He loves going for walks where he can do lots of sniffing and exploring and walks really nicely on his lead in familiar places.
Wilson would like an adult-only home with no visiting children, and he would like to be the only pet in his home as he doesn’t like to share his toys or food.
He would need a separate area for feeding time and would need to be separated while his humans are eating too, so he doesn’t get over excited as he does love food!
For this reason Wilson would not be able to live in an open-plan home where the kitchen cannot be closed off to him.
With time, patience and once a bond is built, Wilson will make a fantastic, loyal and fun companion.

All of the dogs profiled above are being cared for by Dogs Trust Canterbury, mainly at its rehoming site in Chestfield, but some off site.
The centre is open for general browsing on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from midday to 4pm.
Wednesday and Friday mornings are by pre-arranged appointment only.
