Emergency services were called to a crash between a lorry and a van on a busy A-road.
A section of the A257 was closed in both directions due to the collision shortly after 6pm, with drivers facing long delays as a result.
The route between Nash Road and Knell Lane, near Wingham, was blocked and the fire service urged people to avoid the area.
Speaking last night, a spokesman said: “Firefighting operations have now finished at the scene of crash between two vehicles on the A257 between Sandwich and Canterbury, near Ash.
“Three fire engines attended and crews extricated a person from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.
“One person was passed into the care of paramedics.”
A police spokesman added: “Officers attended along with the ambulance and fire services and a man was taken to hospital.
“The road was closed while the incident was responded to and reopened at around 9pm.”
South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) has confirmed paramedics were joined by an air ambulance.
The patient was then taken to William Harvey Hospital by road for further medical treatment.
The collision comes just hours after motorists were told they could face a longer bout of traffic chaos on a different section of the route.
South East Water shut the A257 Littlebourne Road and St Martin’s Hill at the weekend as it continues working to fix a burst water pipe, which also left hundreds of homes without a supply.
