A man killed when his car overturned on the A2 near Canterbury has been named locally.

The 41-year-old driver died when his grey Peugeot 207 flipped on the coast-bound carriageway at about 1.55am yesterday.

Kent Police said he died at the scene, between Bridge and Barham. His family have been told.

The man has been named locally as Oscar Hunt, and tributes have already been paid on Facebook.

Ginni Howell, who describes herself as his sister, said: "Thank you for all your kind words.

"Even in death he's still in the limelight.

"He's grown his wings and he's now been reunited with our beautiful mum and nan. RIP Oscar."

Kane Jeffery said: "RIP. I will miss you so much mate."

And Mark Ward said: "RIP Oscar, so sad. Bless you."

A police spokesman said no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash.

The road was closed for more than six hours while an investigation was carried out.

Drivers were diverted off the A2 via Canterbury, to rejoin the carriageway at Patrixbourne, until the road reopened at 8.30am.

Investigators are now urging anyone who saw the crash, or the Peugeot earlier, to come forward.
