A crackdown on speeding through a Kent village has seen 20 motorists reported – with one clocked at almost double the legal limit.
Police officers were deployed to Wingham High Street following a number of concerns raised by locals.
The two-day operation at the weekend caught one van, one motorcycle and 18 cars speeding along the 20mph road.
The worst offender was found to be tearing through the village at 38mph.
Insp Leigh Woolnough said: “Our officers will regularly carry out traffic operations around the district to ensure motorists are adhering to the law.
“Speed limits are there for a reason and anyone found disregarding them will leave themselves open to a fine and points on their licence at the very least.”
Only last week KentOnline revealed how residents in Wingham had raised concerns about motorcyclists speeding through the village and revving their engines at all hours.
In response to the issues raised, police said they would be increasing patrols at particularly troublesome times.
Four new officers for the area had also been recently recruited.
