Aldi is opening the doors to its latest Kent supermarket tomorrow.

The budget chain will welcome customers for the first time to its new base in Canterbury.

The new Aldi supermarket in Canterbury opens on Thursday

An opening ceremony will be held at the Sturry Road site from 8am.

The store - given planning approval last year - is located next to B&Q, which has shrunk in size in order to accommodate the new supermarket.

Canterbury's other Aldi is to remain in operation, yet question marks surround its future.

Team GB hockey star Susannah Townsend, who plays for Canterbury, will be cutting the ribbon at the morning’s opening ceremony.

New store manager Simon Possee said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Canterbury.

B&Q and Aldi now sit side-by-side in Sturry Road

“It’s set to be a special day.”

The supermarket will be open from 8am until 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

A coffee chain will also be taking up residency in a new unit neighbouring Aldi, but a tenant has not yet been secured.

B&Q is retaining 50% of its floorspace, while the supermarket will occupy about 45% in the redesign, and the new coffee shop will take on the remaining 5%.

The B&Q car park has been split in half, with the Aldi side being resurfaced ahead of tomorrow's launch.

B&Q has been downsized to cater for the new Aldi

About 40 jobs have been created as a result of the new supermarket.

Aldi is located over the other side of the road to Asda, and just a stone's throw from Lidl.
