Award for special needs teacher

Teacher Pam Davies who has been recognised in national teaching awardss

A teacher of disabled children has been recognised in a national awards scheme.

Pam Davies, 58, was highly commended in the Special Needs Teacher of the Year.

She has worked at St Nicholas School, Canterbury, which caters for youngsters with profound severe and complex needs, for 16 years and lives at Sandwich.

For the past eight years she has specialised in teaching children with multi-sensual and visual impairment.

“I love it,” she said. “Their capacity for learning is enormous. They are vulnerable young people but they are so keen to learn.”

She was nominated by head teacher Daniel Lewis who said: “She has built wonderful relationships with the families of the children at the school and has supported them through the most difficult times.”
