More than a hundred local bands have signed up for their
chance to play at this summer’s Lounge On The Farm festival.
This year the three-day mix of
music, entertainment and local food and drink have launched a new
competition, giving unsigned talent in Kent the opportunity to
share the bill with headline acts.
You Say....They Play, launched this
month, will put the top ten most popular bands on the main stage
bill from Friday July 10 to Sunday July 12.
Lounge On The Farm organiser Matt
Gough (pictured right) has been overwhelmed with the
success.
He said: "Every year we get
inundated with requests from Kentish bands to play at the festival
and we just decided it’s too difficult to choose, so we’d let the
public have their say this time round.
"It’s been fantastic, there’s been
an extremely high standard of entries and there’s also been an
overwhelming response with more than 12,000 people visiting the
website in just over 20 days."
He added: "It’s really great to see
the passion and enthusiasm within the local music scene."
Bands have until the end of
Thursday to register and upload their photos, biographies and
tracks. Visitors to the website can then vote for their favourite
act and from June 15, the top 50 will go through to the next
stage.
Once into the "Farmer’s Fifty"
festival ticket holders will then have a chance to cast a second
round of votes, picking the ten bands will share the bill with acts
including Edwyn Collins and The Horrors.
At least 50 per cent of each band
must be Kent-based and bands can only enter once.
