RESIDENTS in a Kent city are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers after a burglary.
The warning from police comes after a 56-year-old retired man from Artillery Gardens, Canterbury, had £80 stolen.
The burglary took place at around 11am on Tuesday when a man conned himself into a flat claiming to be a water board official.
After the man had left the victim noticed that his wallet had been discarded on the floor with the cash missing.
The offender is described as being aged in his late 30s with an Irish accent and wearing a black jacket.
A police spokesman said: "You should never open the door to anyone if you are unsure of their identity. Ask to see proof that someone is who they claim they are and check it."
