A feast of local produce was on offer during a special open day at The Beacon in Tankerton last Sunday.

To celebrate the beach house being awarded 'unlimited’ licensing ceremonies by Kent County Council, an open invitation was issued to anyone hoping to plan their ceremony or event at the house, and local businesses were invited to showcase their wares.

Chefs from Pumpkin served up canapes; Jane at Graham Greener brought flowers, What’s Up Cupcakes provided sweet treats and The Cheese Box offered savoury delights.

Music was provided by bands including celtic performers Camine and girl group Nirvanarama, and there were art installations around the grounds.

A touch of pampering was also on offer, with Japanese facials provided by Shelley Ganderton and make-up and hair by Frances Prestcott.

Owner Katrina Brown said: “The open day worked brilliantly with eaty bits and cheese tasting inside, wine tasting on the 'sunrise deck’, Japanese face lifts in the meadow and a marvellous mermaid meander signposted throughout ending with real life mermaid Annie Taylor in her shimmering scales.

"We were all independent operators, and proved an excellent team, with everyone supporting one another throughout the day. It felt like family.”

This Thursday's Gazette states that the open day is to take place on Sunday, July 3, when it in fact took place last Sunday. We apologise for the error and any confusion caused.
