Canterbury in action against Fleet Leisure

Fleet (red shirts) look to clear their lines at Hersden on Saturday

Canterbury City manager Dave Fairclough
declared himself satisfied with the team’s tally of four points from two games following their arrival in the Vandanel Kent County League’s Premier Division.

After Saturday’s 1-1 draw with last year's runner-up Fleet in City's first match at Hersden, he said: "With so many players away on holiday, we battled well and played the better football.

"Four points from the first two games has to be satisfying in a higher division because we are not expecting any easy games."

City were without six of the side who had beaten Lewisham Borough the previous week. Although Fleet were strong in defence, City’s domination of the midfield kept them in check.

City took a 50th-minute lead when Scott Lawford’s corner was headed in by Ian Hossick but Fleet made a forceful reply and when goalkeeper Danny Wrench failed to clear following a corner, Mat Balson levelled.

City entertain Stansfeld O&B on Saturday at Hersden, kick-off at 2.45pm.
