Canterbury take on London Irish Amateur, green Picture: Paul Dennis

Canterbury scored nine tries in their 54-7 win over London Irish Amateur on Saturday to return to the top of the National 3 London & South East table.

The home eight ruled scrum and line-out, allowing the city side to run in six first-half tries. Peter Kelly scored three of them with the others coming from Nicky Woodbridge, Martyn Beaumont and Rob Keir.

After the break Canterbury continued where they had left off with a touchdown from Mike Melford followed by a try from Wim Baars.

Although second best, the visitors were rewarded with a converted try after 56 minutes, but Canterbury finished off the scoring with a try from Mark Livesy.

Irish, to their credit, discovered the energy to dominate territory for the last 20 minutes but were unable to reduce the massive deficit.
