The father-and-son team behind the controversial Bing strip club in Canterbury will ask councillors for a new licence on Tuesday.

Members of Canterbury City Council's licensing committee will decide whether Ralph and Alistair Noel's business in Dover Street, Canterbury, can continue to be a sexual entertainment venue.

The club opened 12 months ago in the face of opposition from some nearby residents including members of the Oaten Hill District Society.

It's chairman Fred Whitemore who lives in Dover Street told the council: "We believe that it's wholly inappropriate that it should operate in an area which is has a large number of residential properties and the location of a residential student area as well as Canterbury College nearby."

A number of people have written to the council backing the Bing's bid for a licence while the police, Kent County Council's safeguarding children board, the UK Border Agency, environmental health officers and the Canterbury Community Safety Partnership have not raised any objections.
