A rabbit was also caught in the flames, but was thankfully saved after crews gave the pet oxygen using a specialist mask for animals.

Two fire engines were called to the scene, where crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet, before using a high-pressured fan to clear the home of smoke.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called to reports of a living room fire at a house in St Dunstan’s, Canterbury at 8.16pm yesterday.
