Changes are imminent at Whitstable Town as manager Nicky Southall attempts to steer his under-performing side clear of relegation trouble.

The Oystermen boss has spent this week trying to strengthen his squad in the wake of four straight league defeats.

That run has left Town hovering just one point above the Ryman League Division 1 South drop zone – albeit with games in hand – and Southall knows something needs to change.

He said: “I want to try to get a few new faces in before the weekend because I need to freshen it up a little bit. It’s gone stale.

“We’re too comfortable. You’re only as good as your last game and we got beat (at Burgess Hill). At the moment, too many of us are underperforming and that means others are doing too much.

“We’re too good to be looking over our shoulder but the results don’t lie.
“We’re going through a crisis of confidence. Too many of us are under-performing and I’ve got big players not showing up.”

Less than five weeks ago, Whitstable entertained Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy and pushed the Skrill South side all the way before losing to a last-minute goal. But they’ve scored only one goal since then and haven’t picked up a single point.

Whitstable welcome second-bottom Eastbourne Town to the Belmont on Saturday.
