Specialist fire officers were scrambled to a “chemical incident” early this morning after a man thought he was suffering an adverse reaction from cleaning his fossil collection.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Central Parade, Herne Bay, just after midnight.

It was later thought the chemical agent had nothing to do with him being taken ill but was in fact to do with something he had eaten or drunk.

Emergency services had left the scene by 1.30am.
