The Crusaders Basketball Academy based at Canterbury High School are through to the last eight of the England Schools Under-19 competition.

Canterbury knew they would have to be on the top of their game if they were to beat Barking Abbey – who had reached the national final for the past three years – and they certainly were as they edged home 58-57.

Rob Vassie top scored with 17 points, followed by Disraeli Lufadeju with 12, Andy Chiguri with 10, Tom Humphrey with eight and Dave Tait with 7.

Coach Jesse Sazant (pictured) said: "This was a great win for our school and club. The guys played with confidence and made big plays when they mattered.

"Our guards showed up today hitting eight ‘threes’ between them and looking after the ball throughout the game. Rob was terrific leading the team and Kalil Irving was immense on the defensive boards."
