Canterbury disturbance sparks large police response near bus station

As many as six police cars rushed to Canterbury city centre following reports of a disturbance.

Officers arrived at the scene in St George's Place, opposite the bus station, shortly after 5pm yesterday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault, His alleged victim was another man, but no injuries were reported.

The matter was resolved through a practice known as restorative justice and the teenager was released without charge.

Kent Police says restorative justice is used in certain circumstances and allows victims of crime and the offender "to come together to discuss how to repair the harm caused".
