Two crews were called to Becketts Wood at 11.40am yesterday, where a compost heap, fence and logs were alight.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally after embers from a garden incinerator blew onto a compost heap.

They spent more than an hour and a half bringing it under control. No injuries were reported.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Following this incident, firefighters are reminding the public to avoid lighting controlled garden fires of any kind in windy conditions, and when the weather conditions are calm enough to do so safely, to make sure it’s in a clear area, away from greenery or property."
