A former Canterbury chorister is topping the charts these days, having swapped his choir background for rap.

Dan Caplen, who studied music at St Edmund's, is enjoying chart success with his latest single in collaboration with world renowned artists Rudimental, Macklemore and Jess Glynne.

Dance track These Day was released last month and has worked its way to the top of the hit parade.

The foundations of Dan's music making, choral training and musicianship was formed whilst in St Edmund's junior school.

He left for a brief spell before returning to the school's sixth form to study music and music technology.

Ross Underwood, head of music technology at St Edmund's, said: "Those members of staff old enough to remember Dan, will remember his creativity and his love of music.

"His love of all musical styles, in particular is something that set himself apart from others – he really did have an eclectic taste.

"His recording project for his A-level music technology was a cover of Jason Rebello’s version of ‘Summertime’; Dan performed the rap himself and immersed himself in the production aspect of the song.

"We are all extremely pleased for and proud of Dan Caplen, a former pupil who is enjoying chart success with his new single ‘These Days’."

After his A-levels, Dan went on to study production in Portland, Oregon and was signed by Atlantic Records.

Last year, Dan toured with Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and George Ezra.

These Days is his first major chart success, which he performed with Rudimental and Jess Glynne on the One Show on Wednesday, February 7 and on the Chris Evans’ Breakfast show on Friday, February 9.
