It blocked the line between Dover Priory and Canterbury East for two-and-a-half hours as crews worked to clear the obstruction.

At 3.40pm, Southeastern also tweeted: "Unfortunately the tree on the line at Adisham has caused damage to a train, so the line from Dover towards Canterbury East is blocked until further notice.

"Services are being diverted via Ramsgate where possible and replacement buses are being arranged."

The route reopened with the 5.30pm service between Dover Priory and London Victoria.
