Bus operators reported severe delays to major services due to gates at a level crossing being stuck.

Stagecoach buses said the barriers at Sturry were down, causing traffic to back-up.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "There is an issue with the barriers and our engineers are on their way to fix the problem.

"The police are on site so motorists are able to get through but there are delays.

"We apologise for any delays and our engineers will work to get this fixed as soon as they can."

The barriers had been repaired by 3.20pm.
