A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for part of Kent.

The alert affects the Tidal River Stour area from Fordwich in Canterbury to Stonar Cut in Sandwich.

This means flooding is also possible for Stodmarsh, Grove Ferry, Plucks Gutter, Ash Level and Minster Marsh.

Those in any of these areas are being told to 'be prepared' as river levels are forecast to rise as a result of high spring tides coinciding with high river levels.

Flooding of roads and low lying land is expected between 3.30am and 5.30am tomorrow in areas around Grove Ferry and Plucks Gutter.

No further significant rainfall is forecast for the next few days and the Environment Agency says it expects river levels at Grove Ferry to reach an approximate level of 2.36 metres above Ordnance Datum on the high tide at 4.30am tomorrow.

On its website, the Environment Agency wrote: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near the River Stour, which may be flooded.

"This message will be updated tomorrow morning, or as the situation changes."
