Brazen thieves made off with a brightly coloured bike adorned with petals and plants in the middle of a city centre.

One of the so-called Flower Power cycles was taken after its owner padlocked it close to the Beaney in High Street, Canterbury, last night.

The two-wheeler was one of a handful regularly displayed close to Fond Coffee in Jewry Lane and the city's punting company for passers-by to pose next to for photographs.

Campaigner Edd Withers wrote on Facebook yesterday: "These have been in Canterbury over the past few months creating smiles.

"It was padlocked in the town near to the library and when the owner, Kieran Blindell, went to bring it init’s was missing.

"This is a project that has really made people smile at a difficult time for all, and I’m hoping this post may make someone feel awful about what they have done.

"Please return the bikes to Fond Coffee."

Police have been contacted for comment.
