Two people have been taken to a London hospital in a serious condition and a further two to a local hospital following a crash today.
Emergency crews - including firefighters and two air ambulance teams - were called to the A257 Canterbury Road following the collision shortly after midday.
A blue Ford Fiesta heading towards the city collided with a black Land Rover Discovery travelling in the opposite direction near Canterbury Golf Club.
Investigating officer Sergeant Chris Wade, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.
"If you can help, please phone the dedicated SCIU appeal line on 01622 798538, quoting 19-0365. Alternatively, email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk."
Motorists heading out of the city were being diverted down Stodmarsh Road but the A257 has now been re-opened.
