A strong police presence has been reported in a central street.

Officers were scrambled to Burgate Street, Canterbury, near JD Wetherspoon’s The Thomas Ingoldsby pub at about 1pm.

Eye witnesses reported also seeing Trading Standards and Customs officers entering various shops along the road, including TopCut Barbers, Burgate Express and Canterbury Grocery Store.

“I’ve seen about 20 officers in this small area including police, customs and trading standards.

“I’d say in the barber shop there are probably more than ten,” a witness said.

More as we get it.
