Herne Bay boss Simon Halsey is hoping to return from a club bonding trip to Spain with a sun tan and a two-year contract.

Bay leave for a five-day jolly-up on Thursday to celebrate their Kent League title success and run to the FA Vase semi-finals.

And Halsey (pictured), who has rejected approaches from rival clubs, wants to use the break to secure his future as Bay prepare for Ryman League football.

He said: "We’re more or less there with the contract. It should be done and dusted by the time we come back from Spain.

"With everything we’ve achieved over the last couple of years, I feel I’ve done enough to warrant a contract, ideally for two years.

"I’ve had a couple of conversations with clubs at our level but I’m over the moon to be manager of Herne Bay and want it to stay that way.

"We’re stepping into the unknown next season and while we’re not going in there just to make up the numbers, it could be more of a transitional year.

"If that’s the case, or we don’t go as well as we want, I don’t want to be looking over my shoulder. I want to make sure I have the backing of the club.

"With the cup victories, the Vase run and the league title, everyone connected with the club has been spoilt over the last couple of years."
